Amber Allison of Bling Out Your Dead in Los Angeles, CA, creates one of a kind Dia de los Muertos inspired masks. These masks are highly detailed and truly works of art. I love that the 3D elements are incorporated into the mask, vs. just along the top like many Dia de los Muertos masks. With Fall quickly arriving, it's that time of year to start thinking about Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. You can see more of her work on the website, Facebook page, and Etsy shop.

Skeleton Makeup
Rachel Battle, of Richmond, VA, created this skull artwork.
I was looking through the submissions and thought "Wow, this face looks familiar...sort of like Rachel's face." Then, I looked at the submitter's name. Rachel and I used to work together several years ago. She's a cosmetologist who is a master of her craft. Everything she creates is a work of art, and truly impressive. This skull makeup, photograph, and editing, are no different. Absolutely stunning!

Skeleton Earrings
J L Tunnell made this "pair of earrings I made a few years ago. The head/skull of each was a natural gold nugget and the skeletons were made with 14K gold wire. Each earring is about 1-1/2 inches tall."
I rarely get to see great skeleton jewelry. I'm particularly fond of skeletons that have movable joints. The skeletons dance around when someone wears them. These have a creative use of materials and great proportion. Perhaps I'll have to make my own dancing skeleton jewelry.

Crocheted Skulls and Flowers
Coco Flowers, from Paris, France, created these crocheted skulls and flowers.
I've been talking about crochet a lot recently, with various crocheters. It's probably because Fall is soon, and I'm pondering new designs...mostly a skull design. Seeing great crocheted skulls like these, really is fantastic inspiration. I love the use of flowers as the eyes. This could help solve a design issue I've been having. Check out Coco Dollz Shop to purchase her creations.
I grabbed this animation from her blog, because the skulls look like they're dancing.

We asked our readers to submit their own skulls using the template that was provided, then we faced them off against each other, and we now proudly present for your viewing pleasure, the final results.

Crocheted Skulls
Laurie Kahn shared with us some of the Day of the Dead Skull themed crochet pieces she's made.
Crochet lends its self to being very delicate and having intricate designs. When it's done with crochet thread, the lacy effect really shows well. These crocheted skulls by Laurie are beautiful. A skull is a hard shape to create with crochet, but Laurie seems to have mastered it. These are 3 of the crocheted skulls she's made. Head over to her Etsy shop, Spider Mambo, to see more great skull pieces.
